New luxury Epsom salt brand delivers vote of confidence in global Britain

  • Newton Wood – a new British brand, designed and created in Britain
  • Launch coincides with 400th anniversary of the discovery of Epsom salt and its therapeutic qualities
  • Natural, organic product and fully biodegradable packaging chime with current trends and consumer concerns about plastics, toxins and other environmental issues
  • Ambitious export plans and potential

A new British brand is bringing Epsom salt right up to date, with its eye firmly on taking this quintessentially English product to a new worldwide audience.

Created and based in the UK, Newton Wood is the first brand to market Epsom salt as a high-grade therapeutic product in its own right. Newton Wood crystals are 100% natural and organic, free from artificial colouring, perfumes and other additives, and supplied in 1Kg telescopic cardboard tubes, which are fully biodegradable.

Soaking in warm water enriched with Epsom salt is a proven therapy for tired, aching muscles and joints; it also helps ease a range of skin conditions, and promotes general health and wellbeing. Newton Wood is giving this traditional remedy new relevance in the context of today’s work patterns, exercise regimes, and wider health and environmental concerns.

The brand’s launch coincides with the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the curative properties of Epsom salt – the common name for magnesium sulphate – in 1618. Newton Wood takes its name from an area of Epsom Common in Surrey, where the discovery was made.

Newton Wood’s founder and managing director Leslie Wilson said: “Consumers are rightly concerned about toxins, additives and packaging in the personal care products they buy. They’re also incredibly busy, and want quick, simple ways to enhance their wellbeing that fit naturally into their daily routine. Our brand meets these needs perfectly. “

“The unique properties of Epsom salt were first identified 400 years ago, but at Newton Wood, we’re looking forward, rather than back. We have huge ambitions to explore new export markets, and take the benefits of this unique product, discovered in England, to customers around the world.”

I suffer quite badly from eczema, especially on my hands. It's the part of my body I am most conscious about as everyone sees them. I heard about the benefits of Epsom salt for dry skin and saw that these crystals were 100% natural, so decided to try them out. Since then I've added the crystals to my regular hand wash and hand cream to make an organic hand scrub, which seems to soothe my itchy, flaky skin and leave my hands feeling soft.
