It has certainly been a strange time and many of us just can’t sleep at the moment. With routines out the window and stress and worry at its peak, it’s no wonder we’re not getting those precious 50 winks. What’s wonderful about our crystals is, not only do they help you relax and get a good night sleep, they don’t leave you feeling drowsy and zoned out the next day like some conventional sleep aids.
To feel the full benefits of our Epsom salts it’s important you add a very generous amount to the bath and then soak for 20-30 minutes (or longer if you wish). This is when the magic happens. Your body absorbs magnesium from the Epsom salts which prepares you for sleep – and not just any sleep, good quality, long lasting slumber!
Our bath salts are great on their own; the water feels wonderfully silky, they’re odour free and leave your skin soft, your body relaxed and your wellbeing restored. But that doesn’t mean you can’t personalise and jazz up your Newton Wood Epsom Salt bath. Here’s some ideas to get you inspired:
Using essential oils in the bath can really impact your mood (remember to dilute them into a carrier oil before using). Check the essential oil you’re using is relaxing and calming (some are very energising which may keep you awake!). We enjoy using Lavender, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, Chamomile and Rose to have a fragrant bath to help us when we can’t sleep.
Making a posey of herbs to add to the bath can be a wonderful addition to aid sleep and enhance the indulgence of your bath. We use a muslin cloth, filled with our favourite herbs and tied up with ribbon – this stops them clogging the drains. The most common herbs are Lavender, chamomile, rose buds/petals and marigolds. It can also be benefitical to add oats to the bath, they make the water milky soft and are very soothing and conditioning for the skin especially when dry and itchy.
Adding your favourite foaming bath can be just the ticket to induce relaxation and prepare to sleep. With the Epsom salts added the bath will foam even more, feeling beautifully soft and silky.
Adding a touch of relaxing music or a guided meditation podcast along with some soft candlelight can get your mind and body prepared for a good night’s sleep. And we highly recommend avoiding using your phone during or after the bath when you can’t sleep – the blue light stimulates your brain making it harder to switch off.
