Eucalyptus Essential Oil Benefits

Newton Wood | Well-Being

Eucalyptus is our focus as we approach the end of January and it’s perfect to use with Newton Wood Epsom salt. So many people are reporting their struggles to recover from powerful cold and flu viruses. With this in mind the team at Newton Wood felt this would be a great aromatherapy oil to explore.

What is Eucalyptus?

A tree native to Australia, it’s now grown all over the world.  Not only used for its healing properties, but also because it is aesthetically pleasing in floral arrangements and vases around the home. The leaves hold the healing power, often distilled into inhalation oils and soothing balms to relieve the symptoms of congestion and colds.

Many people know Eucalyptus for its power to free the airways when they’re blocked or inflamed from a cold and flu virus but what else is it useful for?

Joint Pain

Found in many ointments sold to ease pain and inflammation of the joints. Arthritis in particular benefits from Eucalyptus oil for its ability to relieve the pain associated with this condition.

Eucalyptus can also be fantastic for reducing back pain and can even assist in the recovery of muscle injuries.  Does this sound familiar?  We thought so too.  Epsom salt is equally beneficial when used to relieve the symptoms of joint and muscle pain and inflammation;  making Eucalyptus and Newton Wood® Epsom salt a match made in heaven!

Cold Sores

After a busy festive season partying late into the night it’s no wonder many people experience an outbreak of cold sores as their immune systems hit a low.  If you’re looking for a natural way to reduce the symptoms and heal quickly, look no further than this therapeutic oil.  Due to its anti-inflammatory properties it has been known to reduce the discomfort of cold sores as well as speeding up the recovery.

Burns and Wounds

With its disinfecting action, Eucalyptus is an effective natural way to clean wounds and aid burns in their recovery.  Working also as an anti-inflammatory the oil supports the body to repair itself. Much like our Epsom Salts at Newton Wood.  Using this oil along with our dissolved crystals can be an effective rinse or soak for the affected area.

Whether you’re coughing non-stop or struggling to produce mucus, Eucalyptus has been known to support the body in suppressing the need to cough while also helping to expel mucus.  Help your body recover from a cough with a soothing Newton Wood bath or foot soak with Eucalyptus.

Breathing and Asthma

Those struggling to breathe as a result of asthma, or even sinusitis, can benefit from an Epsom salt bath with Eucalyptus. Both ingredients actively support the body in breathing and recovering from asthmatic attacks and inflamed airways from sinusitis.

Our top 3 favourite uses for Eucalyptus with Newton Wood Epsom salt:

  1. Fresh Eucalyptus leaves hanging in the shower and a Newton Wood Epsom salt shower scrub with added Eucalyptus oil.
  2. Eucalyptus oil added to almond oil and poured into a Newton Wood Epsom salt bath.
  3. Eucalyptus oil added to Epsom salts for a foot soak.  Followed with eucalyptus balm applied to the soles of the feet and protected by heated socks.
